War Memorial Hall Facility Positions
Thank you for your interest in employment with Virginia Tech Recreational Sports Facilities. In addition to the application, you need to know the information below BEFORE applying for a position. Bob will review applications and will contact those qualified individuals that he wishes to interview.
Employment Pre-Requisites
1) You must be enrolled as a student at Virginia Tech.
2) You must have or be capable of obtaining CPR, AED, First Aid, and Preventing Disease Transmission certifications. If you do not have one or more of these certifications, the classes will be offered as a term of conditional employment.
3) You must complete and submit all required University, State, and Federal hiring documents prior to beginning work. This includes both Virginia and Federal tax withholding certificates, the Selective Service Registration Questionnaire (if male), and the INS I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form.
Position Descriptions
All employees are trained to work in all of these areas. Actual work assignments are determined when scheduling. (See below for more info).
Customer Service / Equipment Staff - 7.25/hour
Provide customer service and assistance to patrons of the facility. Check patrons into facilities and provide information on facility services, rules, and regulations. Issue equipment, take court reservations, rent lockers and provide towel service. Work as a team with other facility employees to ensure the operation of a safe, clean, and fun facility. Respond to incidents and accidents in the facility.
Weight Room Staff – 7.50/hour
Provide assistance and information to patrons utilizing weight room and equipment. Ensure safety and cleanliness of weight room and equipment. Work as a team with other facility employees to ensure the operation of a safe, clean, and fun facility. Respond to incidents and accidents in the weight room and as needed in the facility.
Work Schedules
Employee work schedules are completed before the beginning of the semester, and run from the first day of classes until the last day of final exams, excluding any major holiday breaks (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Shifts are between 2-4 hours long, depending on the day and job area. The schedule repeats weekly, and there is a substitution policy for employees who develop a conflict with one of their shifts. Employees may be scheduled for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 30 hours per week. All employees are required to have one morning (6am-9am) or weekend (Friday night-Sunday night) shift.
