The Importance of Stretching

Flexibility is one of the 4 components of fitness (other three being muscle strength, muscle endurance, and aerobic capacity). It is important to stretch and maintain flexibility every day.
-Benefits of stretching:
o provides greater freedom of movement and improves posture
o releases muscle tension and soreness
o increases physical and mental relaxation
o increased circulation of blood flow throughout body
o reduces risk of injury
o improves athletic performance
o increase workout recovery and reduced fatigue
***It is recommended to warm up before stretching so that you do not put strain on cold muscles. Studies show that the greatest range of motion comes from stretching after your muscles are warm. As a warm up, jog for a few minutes before stretching, then exercise. Make sure to stretch after exercise as a part of your cool down.***
