Held in War Memorial Hall Multi-B, olympic lifting open recreation allows the Virginia Tech community to engage in a strength training regimen where participants can perform olympic lifts (clean, snatch, jerk) in a safe environment. To utilize open lifting open recreation, participants will need to sign-up for a testout and be cleared before beginning the program.

Olympic Lifting Times

  • Monday - Thursday 3:00 – 5:30pm
  • Friday/Sunday 3:00 – 8:00pm
  • Saturday 10:00am – 2:00pm

Test Outs
In order to be cleared to utilize the olympic lifting open recreation times, a member must testout for olympic lifting. Olympic lifting test outs will be offered the week of Sept. 6. Members that do not complete a testout the third week of the semester will be able to sign up and complete a testout at any time during the open recreation hours. Testouts are $30 and require pre-registration. If a member does not pass a testout, the member can sign up again at no additional charge. The olympic lifting testout is designed to ensure that the participant can move safely through the full range of motion (ROM) of the lift and can demonstrate the proper way to fail the attempt. Once a participant clears a testout, the participant is able to utilize the olympic lifting program for their time enrolled/employed at Virginia Tech.

Clinics
Olympic lifting clinics will be offered the first week of the semester and two other times throughout the semester. Clinics are not required but are encourage to participants who would like to brush up on skills prior to testing out. Clinics are $5 and require pre-registration.

Sign Up for Open Recreation Times
Due to the expected high volume of participants and the limited capacity (16 participants at a time) of the Strength & Conditioning room, pre-registration will be required to book times in the space. A participant can register for an olympic lifting open rec time once cleared from a test out. Lifting registration times will be spaced out for an hour and provide a 15 minute overlap to allow for members to finish and or arrive early. The lifting time blocks are as follows:
