Health & Safety Class Schedule

We offer opportunities to acquire new skills for personal or professional development such as CPR/AED, First Aid, lifeguard and swim instructor certifications.  These American Red Cross courses are designed to train individuals to overcome reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening conditions.

Register for these classes here!  You must register online first and you can pay online or in person at 142 McComas Hall with cash, credit cards or checks.  Please make checks payable to: Treasurer of Virginia Tech

*Class Cancellation
Health and Safety classes with fewer than six participants will be canceled on this date noted by the asterisk (*).  Participants can still register after the cancellation date has passed if the class has not been canceled.  If the class is canceled, the participant will receive a full refund.

Refunds
A full refund will be given if the participant cancels prior to seven days before the scheduled class.  If a participant fails the prerequisite, they will receive a partial refund.

Space is limited in all classes, so sign up before the deadline!

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Adult CPR/AED/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogens
Students will receive certification in American Red Cross Lay Responder Adult CPR/ AED, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens. Ready Reference card and training materials are included. BBP is a one-year certification and the others are valid for two years.

Lifeguard Training
The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course certifies participants as a lifeguards for two years. Participants must be able to complete all prerequisites at the beginning of the first session. No absences will be allowed. On the first day of class, participants must be able to demonstrate the prerequisites skills. A partial refund will be given to participants who cannot demonstrate the prerequisite skills. Books and training materials are included.

Lifeguard Training Recertification
The review class is based on the NEW American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and is set up in a review format. The course will re-certify participants as a lifeguard for two years. No absences allowed. On the first class, particiapnts must present proof of current lifeguard training, CPRO/AED, and First Aid certifications. All participants must have a textbook and masks. Copies of the textbook and masks are available for purchase.

Lifeguard Instructor
The American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor course certifies participants as a lifeguard instructor. No absences allowed. You must be able to demonstrate all skills required for lifeguarding on the first night of class. Books and training materials are included.

Water Safety Instructor
The American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course certifies participants as a swim instructor You will be certified to teach all levels of American Red Cross swimming lessons. No absences allowed. On the first day of class, participants must be able to demonstrate the prerequisites skills. A partial refund will be given to participants who cannot demonstrate the prerequisite skills. Books and training materials are included.
