Alan has worked at Virginia Tech since 1987. He joined the Department of Recreational Sports in July 2001 as the assistant director for Sport Clubs. Prior to that, Alan was the assistant director of Student Activities for the Department of University Unions & Student Activities for 14 years. He received his undergraduate degree in Communications from the State University of New York College at Cortland and received his master's degree in Higher Education from Kent State University, Ohio. An avid Hokie fan, Alan is a Hokie Club Representative for the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund and also serves on the Executive Committee of the Hokie Hardwood Club, the booster organization for the Virginia Tech Women’s Basketball team. His wife, Cathy, is the assistant to the vice-president of Alumni Affairs and his son, Jordan, is a history major at Virginia Tech.
