War Memorial Hall, located on the Drillfield, houses one of the gyms on campus as well as Recreational Sports administrative offices for intramural sports and sport clubs.
An alumni campaign to finance construction of a gymnasium to memorialize Techmen who had died in World War I began in 1919, and the resulting War Memorial Gymnasium was completed in 1926. Varsity basketball games were played in the gym from 1926 to 1961. Initially called the World War I Memorial Gymnasium, the structure was closed in 1972 for significant renovation and expansion, reopening in 1975.

- 25-yard pool with diving well
- 12 racquetball courts

The pool in War Memorial Hall is a 25-yard, eight-lane swimming pool with a 14 foot diving area. The diving boards are off limits to pool patrons. Thirty-six laps (down and back) is equal to one mile.
War Memorial pool is open for multiple hours of lap swim a day as well as open swim hours.
Any student who has paid the recreation fee, as well as faculty and staff, have access to the gym in War Memorial Hall. All you have to do is present your Hokie Passport at the equipment desk.
Alumni, dependents of employees, retirees, and long-term guests can also gain access to the gym in War Memorial Hall.
